An Introduction to Savannah

Savannah was founded by James Oglethorpe in 1733 as a haven for religious freedom. The settlement co-existed peacefully with the local Native Americans for many years. What makes Savannah unique today is that the layout of the Historic District, along with its many squares, remains in much the same form. Savannah is one of the prettiest walking cities in the country. It is about a square mile in size and is bordered by the Savannah River to the north and the iconic Forsyth Park to the south.
